For the first time, Tasmanians will have the chance to step aboard SeaRoad’s new charter vessel, the MV Liekut, at an Open Day on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday (Monday 14 June).
The Liekut will be accessible from 10am to 4pm at Berth 2, Wright Street, East Devonport, giving ship enthusiasts, curious minds and everyone in between the chance to explore the 210-metre vessel.
Executive chairman, Chas Kelly, said the SeaRoad team was thrilled to be able to welcome visitors onboard for an exclusive look.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response from the community wanting to come and check out the ship,”Mr Kelly said.
“As a family-owned business, we think it’s important that the local community get a behind-the-scenes look into the work we do and how we keep Tasmania connected. We will have all four decks open so there will be plenty of opportunity for people to explore the vessel.”
The Rotary Club of Devonport North is assisting to run the event and will be collecting a gold coin donation on the day with proceeds going to the volunteer organisation and ultimately the community.
“The Rotary Club of Devonport North is pleased to assist with SeaRoad's Open Day welcoming the MV Liekut,” President Ian Hutchinson said.
“We will be manning the entry gates, assisting visitors with parking and directing pedestrian traffic.
“Rotarians are all volunteers and every cent of the donations we receive go to worthy local, national and international causes.
”SeaRoad will be implementing COVID-safe practices for the day. Open Day visitors are asked to park inside the SeaRoad terminal and wear closed toe shoes.
